The Masses magazine cover, by Frank Walts, 1916. One of my favorites! Frank Walts was an African American artist and illustrator. His artwork appeared in a number of other left-leaning magazines, along with more standard publications like The New Yorker and Colliers. He apparently worked for about twenty years, from 1912 to 1935. I actually haven’t found much information about him; should I find more, I’ll add it.
